I chose the title of this brief, yet important topic to hopefully drive home the question that many of us have: are we fixed, or stuck to the ongoing circumstances that currently prevail in our life? The answer to this question might seem rhetorical, but for many it is a lot easier said than done. The simple answer is no, we are not cursed to the same circumstances. We can make changes, but these will be hard. It will take grit, determination, perseverance and discipline to get out. Often times we have to ask ourselves tough questions and do things that we may not want to do, but in the long-run benefit us. I would parallel the idea of being stuck with that of being short-sighted. Often times, we get too caught up in the day-to-day grind and lose track of what we are working towards. So maybe our mindset is not in line with our goals? Maybe we are impatient? Being stuck might just be the lens we are looking through and not what we are actually doing. Because no matter how much you love what you do, you will have tough times and frustrations. That doesn’t necessarily mean you are needing to do something different, but more, or less, take a step back and see the bigger picture. Life will test us and inevitably see what we are made of. Try not to get caught up in it, but see it for what it is: a short-term challenge.
On the other side of the coin, change is needed and you have to ask yourself the tough questions surrounding your interests, goals and personal motivations. This takes some time and does not happen immediately, but if we are patient, we can see it through. We have to find reasons to fight when we get out of bed everyday. When we put our head down at night it’s important to be content, but still ambitious for more. Yes, it’s ok to feel stuck, but remember your not fixed there forever unless you decide on that yourself.
